Writing
Barbara Bigham and Ardith Oakes — separately and as BARD Enterprises — have sold articles to dozens of magazines and newspapers.
Our work has appeared in publications such as Northwest Travel, American Way (American Airlines’ inflight magazine), Cosmopolitan, American History, Family Circle, Antique Trader, Proceedings (U.S. Naval Institute), Early American Life, and Highlights for Children.
In addition, we have written a large variety of material for clients, from simple tri-fold brochures to complex training manuals.
Here are details on a few of the more common projects we handle:
NON-FICTION ARTICLES: As our publication record proves, we are highly proficient at researching and writing non-fiction articles for magazines and websites.
Our articles cover a wide variety of topics, including:
- alternative health care and wellness
- gardening and self-sufficiency
- travel (Northwest US)
- small and home-based business
- crafts and hobbies
- self-development and improvement
- active senior adult living
We handle assignments from magazine or website publishers in need of exciting and compelling articles that draw readers. We will also consider writing on spec in certain situations. Contact us to discuss your needs.
BOOKS: If you have an idea for a book but don’t have the time or skills to write it, we’ll do it for you. We’ll work closely with you to make sure it’s exactly what you want and that it retains your individual style and personality.
Naturally, when we “ghost write” an article, column, or book for a client, we remain completely “invisible.” The client’s name appears as the author and our role in producing the material is kept strictly confidential.
We work with both print and e-book formats and can prepare the manuscript precisely the way you and/or your publisher requires.
PRESS RELEASES: Positive coverage in your local newspaper or trade publications can reap BIG results — far more than even paid advertising.
But few editors have the room for “fluff” pieces that don’t interest readers. When we write press releases, we make sure they’re newsworthy and grab attention.
Most of the releases we’ve written for clients have been published, and several resulted in additional television and newspaper coverage.
BROCHURES & PAMPHLETS: This is the age of information and your business can succeed or fail depending on the way you provide information to current and prospective clients.
We have a knack for writing for real people, in language they understand — without talking down to them or confusing them with jargon or techno-babble.
As an added service, we work with a number of highly talented graphic designers and can take your project from concept to printed material.
