Editing

One of the keys to success is effective communication — with customers, employees, and the public. If your writing contains factual errors, grammatical mistakes and misspellings, you can easily lose credibility and hurt your professional image.

A quick glance at most websites give ample evidence that many people think grammar and spelling don’t matter. But the fact is, the care you take with your writing reflects on your entire attitude toward your business.

If a person doesn’t care enough to check the spelling of a word, how careful will that person be when it comes to doing his or her real work? A single misspelling isn’t going to “spell” disaster for your business, but polished writing can make a big difference in the way people look at you and your company.

But do you really want to worry about whether compound adjectives get hyphenated or if your participles are dangling? An old Chinese proverb wisely says: “The philosopher lets the tailor make his suit.” In other words, you have your area of expertise and it’s usually best to let a professional editor handle the editing jobs.

Since we understand the importance of proper English grammar, usage and spelling, we offer the following services:

Content Editing: This includes clarifying meaning, eliminating jargon, polishing language, eliminating gender-specific language where appropriate, and other non-mechanical line-by-line editing.

Copy Editing: Editing for grammar, usage, spelling, punctuation, and other mechanics of style; checking for consistency of mechanics and for internal consistency of facts and style. We use the “Associated Press Stylebook” and Strunk & White’s “Elements of Style” as the default style references unless a client requests and supplies a different style source.

Manuscript Preparation: Formatting in standard manuscript format (SMF), using Microsoft Word. A manuscript can be formatted according to a publisher’s specific guidelines as long as those guidelines are made available to us prior to manuscript preparation.

Our editing jobs have included:

  • The Chiropractic Journal — an internationally distributed newspaper for the World Chiropractic Alliance
  • Articles published in major magazines
  • Press releases for a variety of clients
  • Books and manuals produced in both print and electronic formats
  • Brochures and pamphlets
  • Sales letters and e-mails
  • Employee training manuals
